I have spent a LOT of time looking for a great watch. There are many features that make a great watch. Personally, (and I stress this is my viewpoint only) the ability to read the time quickly, lack of clutter (as in too many dials that DONT tell the time), quality of construction, the look, the feel, reliability, value for money, and at least for a mens watch - a certain amount of masculinity.

For me, this watch has it all. The simple style is all that is needed on your wrist - it displays the time accurately and the date and nothing else. Thats all that is needed. I dont need to know my elevation, the time in another country, the barometric pressure, my pulse, my GPS co-ordinates, phone numbers that are inaccessible with tiny buttons, and so many other things that are just not necessary.

I first bought one of these watches in Japan in 1998 and fell in love with it then and still am in love with it now. I am an engineer, so I really appreciate the mechanism that is used to store the time and how the watch derives power - from it being moved - which humans do anyway - well, most humans do - look at your kids - are they moving ?

I dropped this watch a few times but the last time I dropped it on a tiled floor (a few months ago) was too much and the internal mechanism gave up the ghost. I should have been a little more careful with it but after 10 years of faithful service I was pleased to have so much pleasure from looking at the beautiful piece of engineering.

If you want a work of art and engineering then buy this watch - MADE IN JAPAN - that sums it up for me.

One slightly negative thing I can say is that the face on this watch is not scratch resistant to serious scratches. By serious I mean against a concrete wall. Other scuffs wont affect it so much.

Also, I would keep an eye on the pins that are used to secure the watch band to the watch body. I think one of mine bent slightly and when the pin broke, a little piece of metal was left in the hole. If anyone ever comes across this problem, use a tiny wire with a dab of super glue and try getting it out that way.
