The Weems Navigator Watch is styled after the famous Weems Second Setting Watch designed by Captain Philip Van Horn Weems in 1936 and used by famous aviators including Charles Lindbergh and the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. This Swiss-made watch has a rotating bezel which can be set as a visual reminder to monitor elapsed time. The dial and hands are fitted with tritium micro gas lighting (GTLS) a technology formerly only found in professional dive watches.

Weems and Plath Sport Navigator Watch (Black Dial) Review

I bought this watch to use as a back-up chronometer for celestial navigation. I set the watch to my ships's chronometer, then use the wrist watch for sight timing.

I set this watch on 4/3/2013 and as of 4/16/2013 it's only 1/2 second fast. Well within my requirements for accuracy. In addition, the tritium gas lighting for night illumination (GTLS) is outstanding. VERY readable in the dark - even the second hand is clearly visible. In addition, the 12 o'clock position is illuminated with a reddish colored GTLS tube that allows you to instantly orientate the watch at night when you pick it up.

The only downside is the second hand doesn't line up with the 60-second divisions on the watch face. In other words, if you're checking time accuracy with say WWV radio, the second had isn't vertical at the 12 o'clock position. It's irritating. to be sure, but not really a big deal as far as accuracy of timing a sextant shot. 4 stars instead of 5...

It also comes with a rubber wristband for use around and in the water.
