MARATHON Navigator Analog Watch 4331 Review

In my opinion, there are two kinds of watches: dressy and rough and ready. This is not the former.

Some other owners I know complain that the glass (not really glass) gets scratched easily. It's also easy to fix with a $10 tube of scratch remover that seems to last a thousand uses. I replaced the band with a zulu double ring from Maratac and it never feels like it'll fall off. Yeah, it stinks a little if you stick your nose in it, but if it comes to that with my watch, it's because I have you in a head lock and I don't care what you smell.

It looks clean and professional, though not something you would (or can) wear with dress clothes, particularly as, due to the form factor, it won't fit under a button sleeve (or French cuffs) for me.

Overall, a workhorse. And the Tritium glows without needing to absorb light, so it's ready for night out of the box. A great value.

I got mine from County Comm, who had a sale for $125 a while back, but this price is worth it.

Perigaum 1972 Squelette Automatic P-0506-SS Automatic Watch for Him Skeleton Dial Review

Overall, I am fairly happy with my first Perigaum mechanical watch. The style is very nice and it seems quite well built.

I have several issues with the watch, but they are all fairly minor:

1) The watch face can be very hard to read and depends greatly on the amount and direction of the light around you. This is my primary issue with the watch. The site from which I ordered the watch (an Amazon seller) showed the watch in the best possible light and gave the impression that the blue hands really stuck out. In reality, they are not nearly as visible. With some practice, you will get much faster at reading the time, but it's slower than it could be.

2) Month dial does not advance on its own when the date dial does a complete rotation. You have to advance it yourself each month, which isn't a huge problem. For some reason, though, it advances backwards, so you must press the button 11 times to advance to the next month instead of just once.

3) There is no indication that the watch is fully wound. I suppose this is to prevent over-winding the watch, but it would be nice if the manual gave some indication of how much is enough. I usually give the stem 45 twists (not sure how much more or less than a full turn one of my twists is) and this is good for about 48 hours of running time.

Issues aside, though, I do like the watch quite a lot. I just wish the hands were more visible.

Croton Men's CA301134SSGR Sharpshooter Black Dial Stainless Steel Watch Review

This is a very unique watch owing to the fact that Croton claims the crystal is "bulletproof". I know the crystal is very thick hardened mineral which has better crush resistance (but scratches easier) than sapphire. There is a protective hard rubber ring which rises above the face and protects the crystal and bezel. I wore this watch on a camping expedition and I can tell you it is very rugged.

The other unique attribute to this particular timepiece is the tritium illumination which is, as far as I know, the only Croton watch with tritium. I have several other tritium watches and this one is plenty bright at night. If you are not familiar with tritium, it is an isotope of hydrogen. The tritium gas inside the tiny tubes excites the special coating on the inside of the tube and illuminates to a surprisingly bright level. The 12 O'clock tube is orange for easy reference in the dark. The half life is something like 12 years and should illuminate for 20 years or so.

I purchased this when it went on sale. I am very happy that I decided to add this watch to my collection. It features a Swiss quartz movement, 10 year lithium battery and most importantly, Croton's lifetime warranty. They have been around since 1878.

The stainless steel bracelet is very comfy and substantial. My only complaint is the use of friction pins vs screws, I had to take it to a jeweler to get it sized. If you want something very unique and well made, this won't disappoint.

Perigaum Atlantic watch. I was a little skeptic before buying this watch and look around the web about any info for this watch and the company. Beside their website there is very little information about the company and their product. one thing I notice is that everywhere I look the price is pretty much the same. unlike other watch company where the product price varies in a very big increment. So I have decided to get this watch because I like the features of having the month, day, and date in the face. After ordering he product, I received it by mail in 3 days. The box was pretty white plain other than a small label sticker on the side that tells me the model, company name and a brief description of the watch with a barcode. Opening the box I find a black case with the Perigaum logo wing and a instruction book. Opening the case I find he watch with all tags attached. It is bigger than I expected and the color is more rosetone red than in the photo. It was not running when I took it out so I thought it was broken at first, but as soon as I start moving it around the heart start moving. I gave it a couple of gentle sweeping motion and it started ticking. Put it on and read the instruction which is pretty simple to understand although half of the booklet page is in German instead of having all English on half of the booklet and the other half in German. After making all the necessary setting of time, day, date, and month, I started using it and making all the necessary test of its accuracy. I have compared it with my Citizen AT Skyhawk atomic radio Eco-drive. After 24 hrs I find the watch is very much accurate as the Citizen with maybe a second ahead. The next day of checking it's accuracy it was still a dead heat. So I don't know about the other people's review, although this is not a watch that cost thousand's for it's accuracy, I find it very accurate. The only drawback is the leather band. It is a little difficult to use, I wish that they would have this in a metal wristband rather than the leather with a very cumbersome "Double locking deployment buckle". Maybe just the leather band was fine without the deployment buckle would work better. So my verdict is it may not be a watch that's worth thousands of dollars, but it sure looks like and works like one.
